Admission Requirements

Master of Optometry (MOptom)

Candidates for the MOptom degree should have a Bachelor of Optometry qualification from the University of New South Wales or other approved university at a standard acceptable to the Postgraduate Coursework Committee of the Faculty of Science. Other related qualifications and experience may also be taken into consideration.

Graduate Diploma in Optometry (GradDip) and Graduate Certificate (GradCert) in Optometry

Candidates for the Graduate Diploma and Graduate Certificate in Optometry should have a minimum 3-year Bachelor of Optometry qualification from an approved university at a standard acceptable to the Postgraduate Coursework Committee of the Faculty of Science. Other related qualifications and experience may also be taken into consideration.

Master of Community Eye Health (MCEH)

Graduate Diploma in Community Eye Health (GradDipCEH)

Candidates for the MCEH must have a Bachelor’s degree and at least three years relevant work experience. If you do not have a Bachelor's degree but do have relevant work experience you may apply for entry to the GradDipCEH. On completion of the GradDipCEH with at least a Credit average grade, candidates may apply for transfer to the MCEH program, and take course OPTM7308 to complete the Masters program. Candidates who are graduates of the LVPEI Diploma in Community Eye Health qualify for advanced standing for courses OPTM7001, OPTM7002 and OPTM7003.

Master of Science (MSc)

Applicants should have an appropriate Bachelor's degree from the University of New South Wales or an equivalent qualification from another university or tertiary institution at a level acceptable to the Faculty of Science Higher Degree Committee. In some cases, the applicant may be required to carry out a qualifying program before being permitted to enrol.

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

Applicants should have an appropriate Bachelor's degree with Honours from the University of New South Wales or an equivalent qualification from another university or tertiary institution at a level acceptable to the Faculty of Science Higher Degree Committee. In some cases, the applicant may be required to carry out a qualifying program before being permitted to enrol. Applicants without a first class honours degree are usually enrolled initially as MSc candidates.

Applicants for admission to our research programs should first contact the Postgraduate (Research) Co-ordinator, to discuss the proposed area of research and suitable supervision.
