Where: ACT | NSW | NT | QLD | TAS | VIC Services: Vision Australia is the nation’s leading provider of blindness and low vision services. This not-for-profit organisation provides its programs directly to residents in Australia who have a significant vision impairment that cannot be corrected by glasses; a condition that can lead to blindness or severe vision impairment; are deafblind or have a print disability. Vision Australia services, most of which are offered free of charge, are designed to meet the needs presented over the course of a lifetime – from children’s requirements through to study, employment, equipment, independent living, information, policy and advocacy, recreation and other vital services. |

Where: Services are provided throughout NSW and ACT. Services: Guide Dogs NSW/ACT train people who are vision impaired to use canes, canines and electronic aids to improve their mobility and thus independence and quality of life. All services are provided free of charge to residents of New South Wales and the ACT. Specialist orientation and mobility instructors provide visits to home, school, work and other locations as required. Guide Dogs NSW/ACT are happy to receive referrals from friends or family members, on behalf of someone else, provided the referral is made with their consent. |

Where: NSW and ACT. Services: From November 2009, Centre for Eye Health (CFEH) will provide state-of-the-art eye imaging and visual system diagnostic services to the general community in one location, at no charge. In providing its world class services at no charge, CFEH will make diagnostic services for eye health readily available to everyone in our community at risk of developing eye disease. To visit the CFEH, individuals will require a referral from their health-care practitioner, be it their GP, optometrist or ophthalmologist. |

Where: Queensland Services: The Queensland Blind Association Inc. provides assistance for both physical and financial requirements. This may include financial assistance for home ownership and maintenance such as rates, house repayments, electricity benefits and holiday assistance. The Association provides specialised equipment at a reduced price to assist members in their daily life, including Braille clocks and watches, talking kitchen or bathroom scales, communication aids, kitchen utilities and games. |

Where: Services are provided statewide. Guide Dogs Queensland is based in seven regional centres in Cairns, Townsville, Rockhampton, Bundaberg, Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba and the Gold Coast. Services: Guide Dogs Queensland provides guide dog mobility; white cane training; electronic travel aid training; adaptive technology programs; school holiday camps; young person’s programs; counseling retreats; low vision support groups; low vision clinics and community and professional workshops. The association’s services are designed to increase a person’s independence and mobility, and help overcome the isolation that can come with losing sight. Where: Brisbane, Qld The Initiative: Queensland Vision Initiative (QVI) Inc. is an alliance of health care professionals working together with the aim of developing a comprehensive eye health program for the Queensland population. QVI comprises twenty-two member organisations many of who provide low vision services to patients and clients. Together the QVI and its members have published a referral resource for metropolitan Brisbane and a state-wide version is currently being developed. |

Services: Guide Dogs Victoria is a premium provider of Orientation & Mobility Services to Victorians who are blind or vision impaired. These services include Children’s Mobility, Acquired Brain Injury Mobility, Intensive Orientation & Mobility, Occupational Therapy and Guide Dog Mobility. All services, including Guide Dogs, are provided free of charge. |
