About Optometry

The profession of optometry is a primary health care profession, dedicated to the improvement and preservation of eyesight.

Optometrists must have an understanding of all aspects of the eye and of the visual processes, and are trained in the basic sciences of anatomy, physiology and physics, as well as in psychology, pathology, medicine and clinical optometry.

The full breadth of the knowledge and skills acquired during their training is needed to solve the wide range of problems seen in clinical optometric practice.

The diversity of the profession ensures a constance source of interest, both in the undergraduate course and in the practising profession. Optometry offers a challenging and rewarding career to those who want to help people.
